Throwback Thursday #4

Hello Lovelies

Time for another Throwback Thursday post.  This is a card I made for a colleague whose Dad loves guitars.  I used Craft Artist 2 software to make this which was my first dedicated card using this software. The guitar images were added from images taken from "tinternet".  I now use it more but not as much as I should do as you can make some lovely backgrounds.

Orla the Owl

Hello Lovelies

I needed some breakout creative time away from meeting so  card requests and family birthdays so I decided I would have a play with some stamps I have recently bought but not had a chance to "play" with.  My first choice was Orla the Owl by Hobby Art Stamps this company has some fantastic designers and the design team is fantastic as you will see from the link above.

I have no shame in admitting that I tried to recreate one of the makes on their gallery for this stamp (the above link is for the gallery).  I am very proud of my finished picture which now takes pride of place on my notice board at work and it I have received many compliments.

So here is my version.  I covered the moon in Cosmic Shimmer drawing ink which when the light catches it and it actually looks as though it is glowing.  The stars were made by splashing drawing gum on the card before starting to ink up with lots of different blue and grey distress inks.  I also used the drawing gum to cover Orla so I could stamp the moon behind her.  The watercolour pencils used to colour were Derwent Inktense and the silhouettes of foliage were from the same stamp set as Orla.

I've not been sat ignoring my blog.....

Hello Lovelies

I haven't posted for a while but life has somewhat taken over.  Not in a bad way, but I haven't had any time at all to sit and post as I have had so many cards to make. So here they are

Throwback Thursday #3 - The Grump

Happy Throwback Thursday,

My offering for today is something I hope you will like.

This project was made for a young girl, whose mum was at her wits end.  The girl was just beginning her teenage year and also coming to terms with the fact that her mum and dad were separating.  It was made by decoupaging an image from the wonderful artist that is Linda Ravenscroft a famous fairy artist,  from the CD rom A Touch of Magic.  The image is called "The Grump" and apparently matched the attitude of this young girl.  The flowers were made my using a spellbinders flower die as was the flourish.  I can report that the young lady is now a happy 16 year old who lives happily with her mum and blossoms every day, but her mum does remind her now and again about the little grump that she was.

Have a lovely day and see you hopefully tomorrow.

Where have I been?

Good morning, sorry about there being no blog over the weekend.  I have been so very busy and not been able to do you all the justice you deserve.  It has also been Easter and sometimes  you have to know when to say, stop, rest and reflect.

Friday (14th) was the 5th anniversary of my mother's death so took some time to reflect on my 55 years with her.

I hope to post something later today, see you soon and enjoy what is left of your Easter weekend.

Thank you for popping by.

Throwback Thursday #2

Hello again

Once in a while we have to send those cards that make us sad.  A year ago this month I lost someone who was very dear to me.  She was not only a colleague, she was a confidant and a Lady in every sense of the word.  She worked up to the age of 67 (she could have retired at 60) and she was a true inspiration.

She was so very special.

She worked up until the Christmas when she was 67 on the Boxing Day and had a massive heart attack in the April.  I wanted to make something special to show how much not just me but all here colleagues in the department respected her, so I set about designing something very special.

I used some milk coloured card by Creative Expressions and made a folder by cutting on piece 10" x 8" and another piece 8" x 8" and pieced them together to make an 8" by 16" card when opened and then mounted and layered more cream and black card to fit.  I cut out the some black card Sue Wilson With Sympathy die and lots of the Sheena Douglass flower dies which I used to cut from black card, once the flowers had all been shaped I the flowers and then gilded slightly with 3 different colours of gilding wax to give them a pure metallic look and I also gilded the sentiment on the front. I then lined the card with black card.

There were so many people who wanted to add their thoughts on the card that I came up with the idea of creating tags so that people could write their own personal message  and they were placed in holders on each side of the card.

It is hard to believe that it is 12 months ago.

I have made several other cards on this theme since.  Birthday cards, leaving cards, new baby.  People really like the idea of having their own little tag to write on.
